I led the UX design for a bulk domain uploader that enables users to efficiently manage their domain portfolios. This tool allows users to upload domain data via CSV files, updating multiple records simultaneously, a significant time saver for domain owners managing large inventories.
The project began with a heuristic walkthrough of the existing bulk upload tool to identify usability flaws and missed opportunities. This exploration uncovered areas for improvement, such as unclear file upload instructions, limited feedback on upload status, and inconsistent user flows, especially in error handling.
I also engaged in user research to understand the pain points better:
Armed with research insights, I designed wireframes that streamlined the workflow, focusing on making the upload process as intuitive as possible. The steps were clearly visualized so users could easily understand the order of actions and the expected outcomes. While most users were already familiar with the process, we ensured that new users were supported with clear documentation to guide them through it. Each step provided visual feedback, including progress indicators during file processing.
To refine the early concepts, I conducted sync meetings with product managers and developers. Together, we iterated on the interaction design to ensure feasibility and alignment with project goals.
For the UI design, I worked within our company’s design system to ensure consistency across products. I crafted a clean and simple interface that adhered to our established visual guidelines while prioritizing clarity. Icons, typography, and button styles were sourced from our pattern library to maintain a cohesive experience.
Once the interface was completed, it was reviewed and approved by management, marking the design as final and ready for development.
During the handoff to front-end developers, I ensured that they had all necessary assets, design specifications, and a comprehensive understanding of the interaction flows. I maintained regular communication during the development phase, clarifying design intents and assisting with any technical challenges.
After the tool’s launch, I closely monitored user feedback and conducted further analytics on usage patterns. We leveraged Hotjar recordings again and examined completion rates in the uploader, identifying areas for improvement. Based on this feedback, we iterated on the interface, optimizing upload speeds and refining error messaging to enhance usability.
